Myakka State Park is just a short 21 mile drive from downtown Sarasota and is one of Florida's original Florida State Parks, opening in 1942. Many of the original structures built by the Civilian Corporation Corps still stand today including visitor center, two picnic pavillions, and five rental log cabins (yes! you can cabin camp here). In 2000 the Myakka Canopy Walk opened to the public boasting a 74 foot tall observation tower that overlooks the 75,000 acres of this Florida State Park. Be on the lookout for massive gators here! They are said to be some of the biggest in the state!
This unique Florida State Park offers great primitive, RV and even cabin camping - and be sure to check out the seriously massive man-made swimming pool while you're there!
