Weeki Wachee first opened in 1947 as a private business and one of Florida's very first roadside attractions, earning the nickname the 'Springs of the Mermaids' from the glamorous sirens of the deep that performed for audiences daily in Newt Perry's underwater theater. Nearly 80 years later, mermaids continue to perform in this crystal clear first magnitude Florida spring along side some of their quirky underwater friends - be sure to say hi to Chester the Sea Turtle on your next visit!
